Calasparra Overview
Calasparra is a traditional town situated about 45kms north-west of Murcia and is
aptly known as the "Jewel” of the region due to the stunning landscapes and lush green fields and variety of colours surrounding the countryside. Until
recent times a town of approx. 10,000 or so happy inhabitants, this number has been swelled by several thousand Brits. that have in recently purchased
homes on peripheral urbanisations and country properties, and all appear to be enjoying a typically relaxed Spanish way of life.
Wending it’s way through Calasparra, the Rio Segura is a favourite with locals for
fishing and swimming, as the water is so very clear. Along the river, white water rafting can be enjoyed through both rapids and calmer waters. If you
are more adventurous there is so much to do here including Quad bike and horse-riding, paint balling, mountain climbing, cycling, fishing, shooting,
country walks & beautiful ancient caves with stalactites, stalagmites and cave drawings. Outdoor activities are seemingly endless in Calasparra.
The town

The town centre is modern, and becoming more so by the day. With a lovely plaza,
fountain and impressive lights dotted around making it proves an extremely pretty place to sit and enjoy tapas and drinks of an evening. Children play
total safely in the streets while parents watch them from outside their local bar, or take advantage of the communal benches situated under the trees
throughout the square and main thoroughfare known locally as Gran Via.
Calasparra
has everything you need for everyday life, with an excellent modern health centre, numerous dentists, vets, opticians, health care specialists, and the
all usual conveniences such as shops, bars and restaurants.
There are a variety of schools in Calasparra all located within walking distance of
the town. For those who live in the country there is a local school bus service daily. Each Friday morning Calasparra residents come together to maybe
have a coffee and to enjoy the local market, with many fresh fruits and vegetables on offer, along with hand crafted goods, clothes, linen, herbs &
spices.
The Santuario de la Esperanza (Sanctuary of Hope) is a tranquil place to visit with
The Virgin of Esperanza taking pride of place watching over the church hewn out of the rock. Also a local museum, gift shop and superb restaurant.
Life in Calasparra is a traditional & tranquil one, and ideal for those really
looking to become involved in a warm and friendly community. Here it is truly possible to live life to the full in a Spanish environment.

The Mayor of Calasparra, Jesus Navarro and his team are a progressive management
group that really do have the towns best interests at heart. Having recently been elected for the third time, you can be assured the town will progress
and expand accordingly, and with this expansion will come more and better public services.
And finally, the Calasparra local police force, headed by Chief Miguel, have all the
plans and modern day facilities in place to ensure your safety. Thankfully, as yet we have not seen the level of lawless activity that occurs in coastal
areas, but you can be sure that Miguel and his team are well prepared for such activity should it come.
