Book Tells Camposol Saga
by Sharon Bruce
Thousands of British and people from northern Europe have bought properties at the huge Camposol urbanization near Mazarron in Murcia. The saga of
one couple’s experiences makes interesting reading.
Clive Palmer and his wife Rosie decided, like so many others, that they would like a house in the sun. In the book,
“A House In The Sun – Camposol (Birmingham) Spain”, Clive tells how their dream became a reality.
The book is full of factual information with entertaining angles that give a very good account of the pleasures
and pitfalls of Spanish property purchase. This should be very useful to anyone planning to buy a home. It seems
half the United Kingdom would live in Spain, given a chance, so the true story is interesting.
Clive says that they decided to buy a house at Camposol after looking at other areas. “We found ourselves late that
Saturday afternoon having signed up to a house when we had fully expected not to have done anything of the sort” he writes.
Camposol doesn’t always receive the most positive publicity but Clive is realistic about expectations and experiences. He
writes with refreshing honesty and at the end of the book says that if asked whether he would do it all again the answer
would be “no”. But only because of the experience he and Rosie gained and they would now probably buy in a smaller Spanish
village. “But if we had not been through the process and were back at the beginning, I doubt we would bat an eyelid in doing
exactly the same again. We certainly do not regret it, even if there are still unanswered questions over the house and
Camposol which will only gradually be settled in coming years.” Earlier in the book he writes “Let us not be too negative.
Camposol is relatively pleasant and should become more so as the development matures. The people who live on it seem, by and
large, to be very nice. And the sun shines a lot more than it does in the U.K.”
Readers may echo many of the points made in the book. “One thing which had been clear before but which was now thoroughly
brought home was just how quickly the Spanish speak.” However, Clive and Rosie love the area that they have chosen to settle
and are enthusiastically exploring the many historic and cultural towns and sites. There are descriptions and photographs of
beauty spots, such as Aguilas, Bolnuevo, Mula and Alido
